About

Sarah E. Morrison is a Richmond based contemporary abstract painter whose work is deeply rooted in movement, memory, and the strength of the feminine voice. She holds a BFA in Art History from Virginia Commonwealth University, where her passion for classical art forms began to shape her distinct visual language.

Sarah’s paintings are rich in emotion and layered with inspiration drawn from time spent in Italy, the evolving experience of motherhood, and an intense connection to art history. With elements of the past and an essence of time gone by always woven in her work, she creates pieces that feel both timeless and contemporary.

Her current style fuses Abstract Expressionism, Impressionism, and Romanticism, offering a sense of movement and depth that evokes emotion and memory. Her works hold many truths at once, combining the atmospheric and the architectural, the tactile and the ephemeral. Each painting is named after a woman, a tribute to the strength, beauty, and complexity of the female experience. Best known for her large scale abstract florals, Sarah’s paintings speak to the classic soul while complementing modern spaces, embodying a style that is, above all, contemporary, timeless, and incredibly unique

Outside the studio, Sarah balances art and family life in Richmond, Virginia, with her husband, two sons, and their treasured rescue dog; finding inspiration in everyday moments and never passing up a croissant in bed.

I work to capture moments of both curiosity and beauty to create paintings that are contemporary, yet timeless and incredibly unique.
